Bought my first camcorder

I recently bought this camcorder used. It's a Canon HV20 3MP High Definition MiniDV Camcorder and it's my new baby. I decided it was time to invest in my own so that I could a) not have to worry about renting from the college during my classes b) make my own videos on my own time c) get more hands-on experience.

Now I need to buy a tripod, an external microphone, and a Mac!

Viking Voices - Dec 2010

This was a guinea pig video that I edited while on the Western Front at Western Washington University. Every month the newspaper had a question that the reporter had to find students to answer. Out of curiosity, me and reporter student decided to see how this type of story would look on video. Overall it was quick and to the point, but boring.

Things I liked:

1. The flow of shots
2. Quality of video

Things I wish I could have changed:

1. More interesting shots
2. Show, not just tell (photographs from students)
3. Lighting

Boy Scouts Clean Veterans' Graves - Nov 2010

This was the second video I shot and edited while on the multimedia beat on the Western Front at Western Washington University.

Things I loved about this video:

1. Incorporation of photographs
2. Different shot angles
3. Edited audio for a better flow (edited out stutters and gaps in speech)

Things I wish I could have changed:

1. Framing shots (main focus not in middle of screen)
